Meet Our Leaders

Joseph Tran, Presdient and Student Co-Founder

Joseph co-founded the Las Vegas Math Circle with his younger sister, Noel Tran under the guidance of their long-standing math coach, Hikmet Erdogan. Having greatly benefitted from the A-STEM math program and MATHCOUNTS team practices during middle school, Joseph was acutely aware of how fortunate he was to attend a school that offered a great opportunity to develop math skills. He was also very aware how that opportunity was limited to only those students who attended that school. With that in mind, he shared the same vision as his math coach and the idea to form the LVMC was created.

With the guidance and encouragement of his math coach, Joseph developed his competition-level math skills and his love for math grew from there. Joseph represented his middle-school's MATHCOUNTS team for both 7th and 8th grade. During his 8th grade, Joseph and his teammates created a math video for the MATHCOUNTS Math Video Challenge, where they won 2nd place at the national competition in Orlando, Florida.

Joseph is currently a Sophomore at Clark High School. Joseph plays both tennis and golf for his high school. He loves to travel, has a passion for most genres of music, and loves to play the piano.

Noel Tran,Vice-President and Student Co-Founder

Noel co-founded the Las Vegas Math Circle with her older brother, Joseph Tran with the guidance of their long-standing math coach, Hikmet Erdogan. Their joint vision in forming the LVMC was to offer students of all ages with the opportunity to learn and love math through higher-level competition math.

Noel stumbled upon her love and affinity for math by accident. As a 6th grader, her math scores did not qualify her as a participant in her middle school's A-STEM math program. But, because her older brother was a Mathcounts team member, she sat in at the after school A-Stem math practices while waiting for their ride home. Gradually, her math skills developed. Three years later, Noel would represent her middle school, Coral Academy as their MATHCOUNTS team captain. She led their team to 3rd place in the Nevada state competition. Individually, Noel placed 3rd and 12th for the chapter and state competitions, respectively.

Noel hopes to inspire young students such as herself who may be new to MATHCOUNTS and math competitions with her own personal story of how math transformed her life. Currently as freshman at Clark High School, Noel continues to participate in the AMC competitions.

Noel plays golf and earned her first varsity letter representing the Clark High School Girls' Golf team. She enjoys traveling worlwide with her family, surfing, reading, and playing the piano
