Testimonials

Entering middle school, I was never interested in STEM topics. It was only by force by my parents that I was enrolled in the class and luck that I was accepted to join, despite not being able to pass the entrance exam. As the months passed, I grew to love the ASTEM program. Along with strengthening my skills in math and science exponentially, the program also taught me important skills such as problem-solving and critical-thinking that is applicable in so many other situations, both in and out of the school environment. In three years, I went from not being able to pass the entrance exam in 6 th grade, to leading the school to third place in the state of Nevada at the 2015 MathCounts Competition as team captain in 8th grade. Through the ASTEM program, I have been given many opportunities for academic success that I would not have found anywhere else, and I can say that the program has benefitted me, along with many others, in ways that are truly unimaginable.

When I started A-STEM in 8th grade, I did not like math at all and was barely interested in science, and I had no idea where it would lead me. As the months progressed and I learned more about math and science from teachers who were passionate about their subjects, I started falling in love with the STEM program. A-STEM taught me a love for mathematics that became a love for problem-solving, and that has extended into every single subject I've ever learned. The problem-solving skills I learned in A-STEM helped me pass the national AMC 10 and AMC 12 examinations; they helped me score 4’s and 5’s on all of my AP classes; and I can honestly say that A-STEM has given me a brighter future: one where I can choose between universities like Berkeley, Duke, and Hopkins, and make the most of my education and life.
